Heart Broken

Did you know that Ashby had a broken heart?

And had to go to the hospital to get said broken heart fixed?

And that she just got out of the hospital this morning?

Yep, me neither.

But that is what Kennedy prayed for during prayer time at school today.  Her teacher was so worried when I picked Kennedy up from school & told me she needed to talk to me.  Here is how the conversation went down..

Mrs. M: How is Ashby's heart?

Me: Fine!  Why?

Mrs. M: Her heart isn't broken?

Me: {looking totally & utterly confused}  Nooooooo.

Mrs. M: Really?  Because during prayer time today Kennedy asked the class to pray for Ashby because her heart was broken & needed to go to the hospital to get it fixed.  I've been so worried about her today & so have her classmates.

Me: (totally embarrassed} No.  Ashby's heart is perfectly healthy & has always been.  I really have no idea what she is talking about, but I assure you that Ashby is just fine.

Why in the world would my child say that?!

I tried to talk to Kennedy about it after school but she was not very open to talking.  She was just adamant that she did not want me to tell Daddy.

Ha.  Too late, baby girl!  What Mama knows, Daddy does too!

Though I will say when I told Marc briefly about it while Kennedy was memorizing her Bible verse upstairs, he laughed about it all.  Probably because it was so ridiculous that our child would even come up with a story like that!  Ha!

After sitting down with Kennedy & asking her questions, she informed us that her classmates were praying for things like their Grandpa being in the hospital & she wanted to tell a story like that to her class.

Well, ok then.  That makes more sense as to why she would tell such a fabricated story.  But is still totally not acceptable.

So today's teaching lesson to Kennedy was about how we don't lie & make up stories, especially when said stories are about people being sick.  We talked about how her story made a lot of people worry & be concerned about Ashby's health, when none of it was true.  We encouraged her to pray for her family during prayer time but to tell the truth. And we gave her examples of some appropriate prayer requests.

We also told her that she needs to apologize to to her teacher tomorrow & let her know that she was not telling the truth & that lying is not right & that she will not do that again.

Growing up is hard & knowing right from wrong is a work in progress.  We know that her fabricated story was not intended to be malicious, but it is still wrong & she needs to realize that it is not acceptable.

Man, growing up is hard!

Said both Kennedy Rae AND Mama & Daddy!

  1. I can't help but laugh! Griffin did something similar when he was in 2nd grade...told the teacher that our house burned down! The counselor and teachers spent the day trying to figure out how they could help us! We were mortified!

  2. Oh no! What a little sweetheart, though. My patents were spoken to by my sister's preschool teacher bc when the class each told what their household chore was, she said my parents made her stand in the garbage barefoot and squish it down so there would be more room. The truth was she just didn't have s chore and wanted to fit it in like Kennedy. Her teacher thought my parents were abusing her!
