I'm A Big Kid Now!

Recently, Ashby has been asking to take the rail off of her toddler bed.  After talking about it, Marc & I decided it was probably time to convert her to a big girl bed.  We think Kennedy had already gotten a bigger bed by the time she was Ashby's age, so we decided today to take the plunge.  We were hoping since it was Labor Day Weekend, they would have some good sales going on.

Side note.  As I was just looking to link up her Toddler Bed post, I noticed that almost a year ago last year (8/31/11 to be exact), we transitioned her from her her crib to a toddler bed.  That also means its been about a year that she got rid of her binkies and was potty trained (and the whole nasty internet word searches that quickly followed).  Wow!  Ashby has grown up a lot this past year!!!

So today was the day.  Ashby was so excited to go & pick out her very own big girl bed!  She even felt it was necessary to wear her lime green sunglasses to the store, as well as while we were selecting her bed.  Baby girl likes to shop in style I guess!

We ended up selecting the above mattress.  It was on sale, but Marc & I kept commenting how we don't remember Kennedy's mattress being this expensive.  Ha!  It was by no means top of the line either.  We asked to look at cheaper options, but man, they were so uncomfortable.  Baby girl better LOVE this mattress & sleep on it forever! :)

They had free delivery & set up, but the only option for today was a time frame between 6:15 pm--8:15 pm.  Since Ashby doesn't nap anymore, she is usually in bed by 7:00 pm so that was going to be a problem.  So we told her that if she wanted the mattress tonight, she had to take a nap.  She didn't put up much of a fight, so she must have really wanted to sleep in her big girl bed tonight.

Here is one last picture of her at nap time in her toddler bed.

After rest time, Marc got to converting the toddler bed to a big girl bed.  We love that we chose a crib that transitioned not only to a toddler bed but also to a full-size bed.

Around 6:00 pm, the delivery guys came.  When they called to say they were on their way, Marc & I both looked at each other like 'are you kidding me?!'  Ashby didn't need to nap, and in turn stay up until 8:30 pm, and then continuously call our name from her room until 9:00 pm (which she used to do constantly & was a big reason we let nap time go).  Oh well.  Better to come early than to arrive late, right?!

30 minutes later & the princess was ready to show off her new bed!

She loves it!  We found her bedding at Bed, Bath & Beyond today & I think it looks really cute on her bed too.  *Sigh* The last of baby is officially gone.  My baby girl is officially a big girl!  A bittersweet moment for sure.

She went to bed fine tonight.  She did play the whole 'Mama...Dada' game, but that's par for the course since she took a nap.  Praying she sleeps good.  And doesn't fall off.  She refused to put the protective railing up when we made her bed up tonight, you know, because she is a BIG GIRL now!

  1. That last picture is too cute!

We were actually talking about bed shopping recently too. We switched Raya to a twin bed shortly after she turned 2 and never had any problems so we plan to do the same with Brielle.

Hope she had a good night!
