Week #2: Kitchen Cabinets & Cupboards

Last week I started the 52 Week Organized Home Challenge.

Week #1 I tackled the countertops & sink.  I would have to say that I did a fairly good job of keeping my countertops free of clutter this past week.  Not perfect, but better than in weeks & months past.

This weeks challenge is: Kitchen Cabinets & Cupboards

Oh my word.  I had my work cut out for me with this week's challenge.  I am embarrassed to admit this, but in the 3 1/2 years that we have lived in this house I have yet to clean & reorganize my cabinets & cupboards.  Yuck.  Today's challenge took me two hours!  But let me tell you, it felt GOOD to do this challenge!  When hubby came home from work a bit ago, I kept telling him to open up a cupboard & cabinet to see how clean it was!  Clearly, I was very proud of the work that I did today! :)

Here are some Before & Afters:

I am very pleased with the results of today's challenge, although, I still have some things that I would like to work on.  I would really like to find a spice rack that can hang on my pantry door.  Maybe one that looks like this.  Right now, they are just a big jumbled mess in my cupboard & I always have a hard time trying to find the right spice when I am cooking.  I would also like to find some organizing trays for our junk drawer.  Right now it is just an organized mess.  Ha!

Next week's challenge: Kitchen Pantry & Food Storage Areas

  1. Looks great. I do the sand thing when I clean something really good, I make sure to point it out to Jason. LOK

  2. Another idea for your spices and stuff: I bought metal tins (food-safe ones) several years ago and magnetic rounds that stick to their bottoms this year. I stuck the spices in their containers to the side of my fridge, but in Michigan, I had them inside my cabinet doors (on the flat side) stuck with velcro. It's kind of hard to explain, but here's a link to the post I wrote right after I did it. It might not be right for you, but maybe it will give you some more ideas about storing spices that work for you! :) http://www.mamasheartblog.com/?p=139

  3. It looks great!! I was lucky this week for the challenge since we had just moved into our house in October lol...everything was still pretty clean. But I hear ya on the junk drawer....if you come up with a good way to organize that you must share tips! :-)

  4. A friend of mine puts her spices in a rubbermaid type container, so she can just pull them out and see them all rather than rummaging through the cupboard. My mom has a lazy Susan, one of those rotating thingies.

    Love the work you're doing!
