I took Ashby into the pediatrician this morning. She actually appeared to be doing much better this morning. Although she still had a horrendous cough, her 104 fever broke during the night & she seemed to be in better spirits when she woke up. I even got a smile out of her on the way to the doctor's office.
Her doctor's appointment went well. He was quite concerned when he first listened to her lungs. He kept saying 'I don't like the sound of her lungs. They sound very crackly. We may need to get her an x-ray'. No parent likes to hear those words! I was definitely thinking the worst--pneumonia, hospitalization, etc. Luckily after a second check (and a big coughing fit from Ashby), he said they sounded much better & sometimes the lungs can sound like that when there is a lot of mucous present. Which there is. He also said she didn't have pink eye, thank goodness. He said that because her sinuses are so plugged up, the mucous is coming out of her eyes. Gross, huh??!! In the end he diagnosed Ashby with a sinus infection & gave us a prescription for antibiotics.
While I'm thankful this can be easily cleared up with medicine, I'm worried about the nasty side effects of antibiotics & how they are going to effect Ashby. So on the way to the pharmacy, I stopped by the store to pick up our new best friend...probiotics! I'm praying these do their job & Ashby is spared from the nastiness that sometimes comes along with taking antibiotics.
Ashby was not having it when I tried to get the first dose of antibiotics in her. Kicking, screaming, squirming, the whole nine yards. I, unfortunately, had to pin her down & squirt it in to her mouth. Which she quickly chased down with water. I having a feeling it is going to be a L.O.N.G 10 days.
She was feeling yucky again as lunch time neared as the crying & repeated whines to 'buddle cug' (cuddle bug) ensued. And she refused lunch. If you know Ashby, she never refuses food! She obviously was not feeling well at all. Praying a nice long nap helps, and that the antibiotics start to take affect. My poor baby.
