Rest In Peace, Mr. Mobile

Since Kennedy was born, she has had the Fisher Price Rainforest Mobile.  At first it hung from the side of her crib, where she would kick & squeal with delight at all of the rainforest characters.

As she got older, we took off the characters, but left the mobile, so she could listen to the classical music at bed time, rest time, or when she woke up in the middle of the night & needed to be soothed.  It even came with her when she transitioned to a toddler bed & big girl bed, laying next to her as she slept.  I always knew when she was awake, because 'Mr. Mobile' would be playing, and I could hear the sweet classical sounds through the monitor.  She absolutely loved this thing & never wanted to part with it.

Recently, though, Mr. Mobile started to give us problems.  Even after replacing its batteries, the mobile's music would not play correctly.  The songs that came out sounded like a dying cat on it's last legs.  So one night after the umpteenth crying episode from Kennedy, complaining that her mobile was not working properly, I went in there & told her that there was nothing I could do & that maybe it was time that Mr. Mobile went to 'mobile heaven.'  Her response?  'Good!  Get it out of here & throw it in the trash!  It is making weird noises!'  I reminded her that if I threw it away, the mobile would be gone for good & she would not get it back.  She was perfectly fine with that.  So just like that, off to the garbage it went!

I really could not believe how easy that was!  At times, I have thought this mobile would go to college with her...that was how attached she was to it.  So for her to just say 'get rid of it' was amazing.  Ashby also has this mobile, but let's pray that her attachment to this thing isn't as strong & we can get rid of it before she is in preschool!

Mr. Mobile--You have been Kennedy's sleep companion for the past 4 years.  She adored you & you provided much comfort to her in her crib & bed.  Thank you for soothing her during rest time, bed time, & in the middle of the night.  You have always been there for her & Marc & I appreciate your work you have done these past 4 years.  We understand that Kennedy has 'worked you to the bone' and your poor motor has had enough.  It is time for you to go to mobile heaven now.  Rest in peace, Mr. Mobile, we will miss you!
