Marc & I both got glasses at a young age. Around the age of 3, but for different reasons. He had an astigmatism in his left eye, while I had a lazy left eye. I always joke around that we were meant to be, with our non-functioning left eyes! Ha!
Over time, Marc's astigmatism corrected itself & he was able to stop wearing glasses at the age of 16. My eyesight miraculously went to 20/20 as I got older and I stopped wearing glasses as well, however, they got worse again after college & I've been in contacts ever since.
So when we had the girls, it's as if we've just been waiting with baited breath for one (or both) of them to need glasses. But up until this point, their eyes have been perfect.
Until now.
The girls' school does a vision & hearing test each year, and unfortunately, Ashby did not pass the vision portion of the test. But when I got the email & letter confirming this news, I was not surprised. Again, we've just been waiting for one of the girls to eventually need them.
Yesterday, I took Ashby to a follow up exam at the eye doctor to confirm/deny what the school nurse had told us about our sweet girl's eyes.
Ashby was a champ at the appointment! She did everything the eye doctor asked her to do & was so brave during the entire appointment. Unfortunately, I was not able to get many pictures documenting this life changing day as she had to sit on my lap for many of the tests. But here is a cute one we sent to Daddy joking with him that these were the glasses that we picked out!
These oh so cute glasses were from one of the many tests that they did with her.
It has been determined that our baby girl has an astigmatism in her right eye. While her eyes were not near as bad as the school nurse had said (20/40 in her left eye & 20/70 in her right eye), glasses are needed to correct the astigmatism. He is hopeful that the astigmatism will correct itself over time & she will eventually grow out of glasses, but that is not a given. However, if she does not get glasses right now, her eyes would definitely get worse.
I am so happy to say that Ashby is ECSTATIC to get glasses & loved trying all of them on yesterday! That makes me sigh a BIG sigh of relief, because that means that she will willingly wear them everyday. Plus, she is excited to look 'just like me'! I loved hearing her say that to me yesterday! My little mini-me!
Her new glasses should arrive in about 2 weeks & we cannot wait to see our beautiful baby girl in them, and hopefully correct that right eye of hers!

hehe...love the pics of you and your husband! She looks adorable in her glasses
