Heart Healthy

Kennedy was born with a Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA).  When she was born the ductus arteriosis (fetal blood vessel) did not close.  If left untreated long term, it can lead to congestive heart failure.  She was followed closely for her first year of life. and as long as she was stable, they were holding off on doing surgery until she was a bit older & gained enough weight.  Right before her first birthday (February 2008),  the cardiologist decided it was time to do the surgery.  They inserted a coil, though her groin, and 'closed up' the vessel successfully.

Since her surgery in 2008, she has followed up with the cardiologist regularly, getting echocardiograms & electrocardiograms done to ensure the coil is doing its job & that her heart is functioning properly.

Her most recent appointment was yesterday.  And once again, Kennedy Rae's heart looked perfect!  No murmur, her echo looked great, and the cardiologist gave her a clean bill of health!  She has no restrictions when it comes to activities, and the cardiologist said that Kennedy Rae can play any sport she would like now & in future years!

And the best part?!  We don't have to go back to the cardiologist for another 3-5 years!  Praise God!  So thankful for the amazing doctors & medical staff for healing our baby girl's heart!
