The Lifecycle Of A Butterfly!

Auntie Rae Rae bought Kennedy the best birthday gift!  A Live Butterfly Garden!  Though Kennedy didn't quite understand what the cup of caterpillars were for, she was so excited when she learned what they were going to turn in to!

And wouldn't you know that they had just learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly at school?!  Perfect timing!

Unfortunately, the right cup of caterpillars looked kind of sad upon arrival, and all of them died by the next day.  But the cup on the left?!  Those caterpillars grew & did their thing!

I know that cup looks nasty, but trust me, the caterpillars are growing nice & big and making their way to the top of the cup.

These past couple of days (about a week after getting the caterpillars), all of the caterpillars made their way to the top of the cup, and attached themselves to the paper under the lid.  This is also when they hardened into chrysalides.

Now that they are fully hardened, we moved them to their butterfly habitat where they eventually will emerge as Painted Lady Butterflies!  The pamphlet says this will happen in about 7-10 days!

And now we wait!

And pray the house doesn't go onto the market and/or we have potential buyers walking through the house while we wait for these chrysalides to emerge into beautiful butterflies.  I'm not sure this will quite be a selling feature for them!  Ha!
