Kennedy was all set for her first day of Kindergarten! We bought her new shoes & a special First Day of Kindergarten outfit, had her hair cut & practiced with the sponge rollers, went out for a celebratory pre-first day of school breakfast, packed a lunch in her new lunch box, and bought all of her school supplies. She was ready & super excited for the first day of school!
Yesterday morning she was awake before we even came in to wake her up, was grinning from ear to ear as she ate her breakfast & got ready for the day, and could not stop talking about how excited she was for school!
We drove her to school, excited to see her start a new year, at a new school, in Kindergarten!
The moment she walked into her new classroom, though, her demeanor changed. She got quiet, shyly looked around & did not want to leave our side. We have never seen our outgoing, social little girl tense up like this. She agreed to sit at a table to draw, but you could tell she was very uncomfortable.
Baby sister even tried to cheer her up by giving her hugs & kisses.
Luckily, after meeting a new little friend, her big bright smile reappeared & all was well in the land of Kindergartners again!
The three of us quietly left as she played with her new friend. And although we wondered how she was doing all day long, we picked up a very happy little girl at 3:00 pm who said her day was awesome and she couldn't wait to go back again today!
It was a very bittersweet day for all of us, especially Marc & me. He mentioned it felt like there was a void all day long at the house, and I completely agreed! Even Ashby had a hard time not having big sister around to play with...and help clean up all of her toys! We missed our baby girl so much but are so excited for her as she starts Kindergarten!
