And So It Continues

Remember this post from last August?  Well, to this day Kennedy still has an intense fear of car washes.  I think that blog post was the last time she ever went to a car wash.  Every time we have talked about going to one, she would beg & plead that we not make her & she told us that when she turned 5 she would be fine going to them.  Well as you know, she turned 5 in March.  And when her birthday came & went, she still did not want to go to the car wash.  When we have asked why she is scared, she really doesn't have an answer.  Sometimes she says its loud, sometimes she says she is afraid the water will get in the car, and sometimes she just says I don't know.  Even after all of the conversations we have had with Kennedy about how car washes are safe, how we would never have her do anything that could hurt her, yada, yada, yada, she is still adamant that we not take her to the car wash.

Well, today was a beautiful day & my car desperately needed to be washed.  We needed to go & run errands, so Marc & I agreed ahead of time that we were just going to go, and not tell Kennedy.  In the past, we have warned her ahead of time that we would be going & it just gets her too worked up.  And now that she is 5, we both agree that she needs to get over this fear of hers & be okay with going to the car wash.  So we just decided to go & not say anything to her.

Bad idea.  Here is what happened the minute we pulled into the parking lot.

Um, yeah.  She was NOT happy!  Sweet little Ashby was trying to talk to her about it all, asking her why she was scared of the car wash & trying to convince her that everything would be alright.  But she was not having it!  Her antics went on forever.  And ever.  And ever.

Marc was finally able to calm her down but she was still not happy.  And it didn't help that we were about 10 cars deep, so as we sat in line, the anticipation just grew & grew.

And how was Ashby doing during all of this drama?!  She was happy as a clam!  She LOVES the car wash!  Ha!

At one point, as Ashby was trying to convince Kennedy that car washes were cool & that there was nothing to be scared about, she held out her hand to Kennedy & they held hands for almost the entire car wash.  So sweet!

And wouldn't you know it, when we finally went through the car wash Kennedy did GREAT!  You could tell she was still a little apprehensive about it all & was very focused as she took it all in, but she didn't cry during it & even said that car washes are cool after we were done.

I'm praying that this was the last of the car wash drama, though, I am not getting my hopes up.  Maybe I should end this post with To Be Continued.  Ha!
