Foodie Friday

Today's recipe comes courtesy of my sister, Rachael.  Well not the recipe, per se.  That comes from allrecipes.com.  But the recommendation to try this recipe comes from her.  She made it for a dinner party she had recently & said it was easy to make and delicious.  Easy & delicious...two words I love to hear!  So I decided to try out this recipe with my family.

Cheesy Italian Tortellini

Ingredients:
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
1 (16 ounce) jar marinara sauce
1 (4.5 ounce) can sliced mushrooms
1 (14.5 ounce) can Italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (9 ounce) package refrigerated or fresh cheese tortellini
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

* Crumble the ground beef and Italian sausage into a large skillet.  Cook over medium-high heat until browned.  Drain.

* Combine the ground meats, marinara sauce, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a slow cooker.

* Cover, and cook on LOW heat for 7-8 hours.  * I cooked it on high for 4 hours.*

* Stir in the tortellini, and sprinkle the mozzarella and Cheddar cheese over the top.  Cover and cook for 15 more minutes on LOW, or until the tortellini is tender.

The Final Verdict: DELICIOUS!  The sausage gave it a nice kick.  It reminded me a lot of lasagna, only better.  It was so good, even my picky girls loved it!  Ashby said the 'tor-i-ini is yummy' and Kennedy said 'this isn't too bad'.  For Kennedy to say that, it must have been pretty good!  And Marc enjoyed it so much, he went back for thirds!!!  This recipe is definitely a keeper!  Thanks Rachael for the recommendation!
