Off To Never Never Land

Yesterday, Kennedy & I went on a mommy-daughter date to go & see Peter Pan.  It was put on by Studio West Dance Theatre, a local dance academy here in town.  We went on a double triple date with Kennedy's friends Sylvia, Noelia & their mommy's.

I was slightly concerned about going as Kennedy really does not like loud music, noises, or sounds.  The last performance we saw about a year ago, Sesame Street Live, was a disaster!  I guess it didn't help matters that the minute she sat into her chair (a fold up metal chair), it collapsed & she fell through the chair onto the floor.  She was in hysterics & for the entire show kept saying 'let's get out of this place.'  So you can see why I was worried about how she would do at Peter Pan.  Marc & I have been talking to her about going for over a month now.  We've been telling her about Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook & all of the other characters.  Unfortunately, we were not able to find the movie to watch beforehand (I looked everywhere!), but we did read Disney's Return to Never Land about a million times, and she loves Jake & the Never Land Pirates on the Disney Channel, so we were hoping she was adequately prepared for this performance!

We got all dolled up to go on our date.  It is not often that you will find Kennedy in a dress, or me in something other than jeans & a t-shirt! :)

She requested that I take a picture of her with her Return to Never Land book & asked if she could take it with her to the performance.  I was all for it, if it meant there would be no tears during the show!!!

Ashby stayed home with our babysitter Jenny as the performance was at 2 pm (smack dab in the middle of nap time) & I doubted she would be able to sit still & be quiet for a 2-hour performance.  But she wanted in on some camera time too.

{Nice stink eye, Ashby!!!}

Sylvia's mom invited us over to her house for cupcakes & play time before the performance.  While we were there the girls put on 'princess capes' to wear to the show.

As soon as we got to our seats & Kennedy began to sit down, I made 1000% sure that the seat stayed down (it, too, was a fold up seat!).  Luckily, there were no accidents & Kennedy landed safely in her seat.  We had a few minutes to spare before the show began, so we had a little fun with my iPhone.

The performance was EXCELLENT!  Unfortunately, I was not able to capture any pictures because flash wasn't allowed.  I tried to take a movie with my iPhone when Peter Pan, Wendy, John & Michael were flying (because it was so awesome to see) but the phone was still in camera mode (I had NO idea!) & the flash was so bright that everyone turned around to see who the obnoxious person was taking pictures.  I was so embarrassed & quickly put my phone away before the movie/picture could be completely taken.  But not before an usher came over to Bryann (Sylvia's mom) & asked her to tell me to please stop taking pictures.  Soo humiliating!!!

All 3 girls loved it too!  The only part that Noelia & Kennedy said they didn't like was the crocodile.  And they were all so well behaved & quiet during the entire performance.  We were all very proud mamas!

A funny side note...Kennedy kept pulling out her book during the performance & turning to various pages.  She must have been referencing the book to the show & making sure they both lined up.  Too cute!!!

Notice Kennedy holding Miss Bryann's hand??!!  Yep, she totally wants NOTHING to do with me when she is around. :)

Kennedy Rae--thank you so much for our date today!  I had such a fun time with you at Peter Pan!  I am so happy that you enjoyed the show too!  I loved spending the day together!  These special times together mean so much to me & I hope you enjoy your alone time with mommy too.  I love you, baby girl, & I cannot wait to go on more special dates with you!

Love,
Mommy
