The BEST April Fool's Joke!

Today was the day!  The day we surprised the girls with their first trip to Disneyland!

When they woke up this morning, we told them we were going to take a long drive, so that they could watch Toy Story 3 on the DVD player in Grandma's car.  Something the girls were very excited to do!  And that we would be driving to Scotty's Castle in Death Valley.  Grandma was sneaky & had already discussed with the girls some possible things we could do this week--go the park, have a picnic, go to Scotty's Castle, etc.  So when we said we were going there today, they were not surprised.  They were just excited to go on a long drive & watch a movie.  Ha!

Two hours into the drive, we stopped at Barstow Station & had lunch.  The girls were still oblivious to what was really going on, and were excited to eat McDonald's for lunch!

The rest of the drive was uneventful.  The girls watched movies & played with their iPads.  They were so involved with their iPads, that they didn't even notice any Disneyland signs nor when we got near our hotel.  We finally had them turn off their entertainment & literally tell them the April Fools' joke that we had played on them.  Ha!

As you can see, the girls were excited.  But I think they were still in shock, and it hadn't quite registered that we were actually AT Disneyland!

Our room, or should I say suite, is amazing!  3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms & a living room area.  Plenty of room for everyone & a great view too!

There are so many fun touches to the room, including this headboard above every bed.  And when you flip the switch, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes turns on & the headboard lights up!  So cool!

As soon as we freshened up & got the girls changed, it was off to the park!  And our first ride...Buzz Lightyear!

Kennedy LOVED it & Ashby did not.  Ha!  She said the robot scared her & she did not want to go on it again.

Luckily the parade well made up for Ashby's dissatisfaction with her first Disneyland ride.  She was in heaven & loved every.single.minute of it!  And to no surprise, the princesses were her absolute favorite!

Next, we headed to Fantasyland where the girls rode the carousel & the Dumbo ride, and Kennedy went with Grandma on the Pinocchio ride.

Before we knew it, it was 6:00 pm & we were all starving.  After an hour wait, we ate at a yummy Mexican restaurant.  And the girls got some pretty princess crowns.

To say the girls were exhausted when we got back to the hotel was an understatement.  Ashby was so tired she was in tears, saying she didn't want to go back to Disneyland tomorrow because of the mean robot guy on the Buzz Lightyear ride.  Ha!  Hopefully after a good night's sleep, she will be our happy little camper again come morning.

It was an amazing first day, and we are even more excited for tomorrow because we have an even BIGGER surprise in store for the girls!  Cannot wait!!!

  1. That's such an awesome surprise! And such a great way to do it. My parents told us 6 months in advance and it was the worst 6 months of my life! Haha. At that little I couldn't comprehend the timeline it was too long! Have fun!!!
