We just got back from a super fun 4th of July at my parent's house! And it wasn't just us going home for the holiday. We got to spend a couple of days with this awesome family!
As well as some wonderful family friends who flew all of the way in from Michigan to spend the 4th with us! We had such a nice visit with Betty Ann & her daughter, Rachel!
We got to my parent's house on Tuesday & the girls immediately wanted to play outside with all of Papa & Grammy's toys.
They had fun running around & kicking the soccer ball back & forth with Daddy & Papa. My parent's backyard is gorgeous! And huge. And backs up to a river. It's like the perfect backyard!
Wednesday the 4th started out at the park. The weather was gorgeous & the girls loved spending time outside in the sunny, warm weather.
Even Daddy had some fun on the park equipment!
After lunch we told the girls if they napped they could stay up until 10:00 pm to watch the fireworks. Much to our surprise, miss '5-year olds don't take naps' decided she wanted to watch the fireworks & took a 3 hour nap! If you know our daughter, naps let alone a 3-hour nap, is unheard for! We were so happy that both girls decided to nap so they could stay up late with all of us!
Every year my parents host a neighborhood BBQ for the neighborhood. Like I said, they have a gorgeous backyard & it is the perfect location for having friends over for 4th of July festivities!
Before the BBQ, the neighborhood had a little parade for all of the children. They girls loved dressing up & riding the Barbie jeep around with all of the other kids.
Greyson even got in on the action too, though we had a hard time getting him to keep his cute sunglasses on.
After the parade, we enjoyed a yummy BBQ full of delicious food! And they even had face painting & games for the kids to play. Every year, I'm amazed at how organized the BBQ is & how many fun things they put together to keep all of the little ones occupied.
The girls were in LOVE with Rachel! She was so great with them, playing games & entertaining them the entire night. And it didn't stop at the BBQ either. She was out front with them, watching all of the fireworks fun.
Both girls were quite a bit hesitant at first with the fireworks, but Kennedy quickly adjusted & had so much fun with them! Ashby, on the other hand, had this expression most of the night.
She opted to stay inside & watch the fireworks from the window for the majority of the night.
She did reluctantly come back out to do some sparklers, though overall, I think it is safe to say she is not a fan of fireworks!
I did get one cute picture of the girls watching fireworks though. Kennedy was trying to console Ashby when she got scared of the loud noise. So cute!
Our plan was to bathe the girls & get them all ready for bed before the big city fireworks went off at 10:00 pm, so they could watch them out in the driveway before heading to bed. Unfortunately they decided to start them a bit early, and the girls were still in their towels when they started. So this is how they watched the rest of the fireworks.
It was such a wonderful day with family, friends, & loved ones!
Yesterday was low key. My sister made a delicious breakfast, and we enjoyed spending more time with everyone. Around 1:00 pm, though, we decided to hit the road as we had a 5-hour drive home & Marc had to work today. We were so sad to see our time together come to an end.
And as evidence as to how much fun the girls had the past couple of days, here is how we found Ashby a couple of hours into the drive!
Both girls were WORN out! And so were Daddy & Mommy!
What a super FUN trip!
Thanks for having us Dad & Mom/Papa & Grammy! We love you & miss you already!!!

Love the last family photo. What a great 4th you had.
