Our Special Date

I'll be honest, I am quite envious of the relationship the girls have with their Daddy.  I LOVE that they are so close to him, but the excitement in the voice & the glimmer in their eyes when they see their Daddy, leaves me longing for that kind of relationship with the girls.

I know the girls love me.  Really, I do.  But I feel like since I am with them 24/7, do a lot of the disciplining (since Marc travels so much), and is involved in all of the day to day activities with the girls, they are just used to me.  They know that I will be with them 100% of the time, so the excitement & giddiness that they get with their Daddy just isn't there.  At least I don't feel like it is.

And it makes me sad.  I want that same special relationship that the girls have with Marc.  I want the girls to get excited to do things with me, like they do with their Daddy.  Like when they go to Dutch Brothers and get a lollipop when he gets his coffee, or when they go to Lowe's & Home Depot, riding in the special cart and trying out the lawn furniture & riding mowers.  These little outings don't seem like anything special, but to the girls, they mean everything to them & they get so excited for these special trips with their Daddy.  And I want to experience these same special moments with the girls too.

So I've decided I'm going to make an effort to have one on one time with each of the girls.  Do special things with them that I might not normally think of doing.  I want them to remember these special dates with their Mommy, just like they do with their Daddy.

Today, when I went to my follow up eye appointment on the wrong day (I seriously am losing my mind.  I even had this appointment written down.  Just on the wrong day.  I'm getting OLD!), Ashby & I found ourselves with some spare time before having to pick up Kennedy from school.  So I decided to take her on a special date.

Baby girl was so excited to go & get her nails & toes painted.  I wanted to get a pedicure so the lady said that she could sit on my lap & have one too.  Oh my gosh, she was ecstatic!  She LOVED her pedicure & literally almost fell asleep as the lady massaged her legs & feet.  She was so proud to pick out her own polish & loved getting pretty little flowers on her tootsies & thumbs.

And when we were finished & still had a good 50 minutes until we had to pick up Kennedy, I decided to take her to her most favorite place of all time.  McDonald's!

Not only did she get an M&M McFlurry (snack size & shared with Mommy), but she got to enjoy her special treat in the front seat of my car.  Something she has NEVER done & thoroughly enjoyed!  When it was time to go, she did not want to get back into her car seat.  Ha!

I had such a great time with my baby!  It was so awesome to see the excitement in her eyes & big smile on her face as she got to do these special things with her mama.  I hope she enjoyed the afternoon as much as I did & will always remembers how much I love her & how special she is to me!

  2. What a fun day! Raya is a huge Mama's girl so I don't have that problem at all with her, but Brielle is a Daddy's girl :-)

I have already been doing special dates with the girls, but always with them together. I'll have to start doing more 1-on-1!
