Well That Was Fun

Please note my total & udder sarcasm in the title of this post!

We just survived 30 hours without power.

30 hours of frigid temperatures in our house.  This morning when we got up our thermostat read 58 degrees.  Brrr!

While I am very thankful that we had a roof over our head, warm clothes & blankets to keep us warm, hot water, as well as food to keep us nourished, I will have to say that was not a very enjoyable 30 hours.

While the snow was beautiful a couple of days ago, freezing temperatures paired with rain that quickly turned to ice, turned our winter wonderland into a big fat mess!

Over 200,000 of us were without power for well over 24 hours, and many people are still without heats & lights.  I want to thank Puget Sound Energy for working round the clock to restore power to many of us & continue to pray that those without power will find relief soon.

Here are some fun things that I learned during our power outage:

* Our gas fireplace, that requires a switch to turn on, still worked after we lost power.  Even though the blower did not work, I am very thankful for the little amount of heat that it did provide for us this past day & a half!

* Even though we have a gas stove/oven, it has an electric starter so no cooking could be done.  The girls loved eating out for dinner these past couple of days!

* Marc can get very creative making animal characters on the ceiling to entertain the girls.  The girls loved shining the flashlights up on the ceiling while Marc made silly animals.

* The toilet feels very cold on a certain body part during power outages!  Almost makes you not want to go!

* Flashlight baths are very fun.  Just ask the girls!

* One should not go 4 days without washing their hair.  Just ask me.  But not drying my hair is not an option (I have awful waves in my hair), so greasy hair & a hat it was.

* Even after 24 hours without power, Marc & I still continued to flip on the light switches & try to vacuum the floors.  Actually that last one would be me.  It took me until plugging in the vacuum to finally remember it could not be done without power.  Duh!

* The girls are very adaptable & did great these past couple of days!  Never complained about how cold it was, having to put on layers upon layers, not having power, etc.  I can't exactly say that was true for Marc & me.

* I definitely take took power for granted.  Not thinking twice about turning on the lights, having the heat flip on when it starts to get chilly, getting water our of the refrigerator dispenser, starting a load of laundry, etc.  NEVER AGAIN!  I thank God every day that we are fortunate to have power!!!

And some cute pictures from the past couple of days:
