No Sugar Bugs!

Sorry folks, no Foodie Friday today.  Marc was out of town part of the week & our meals were super b.o.r.i.n.g.  Can we say pizza, leftovers, breakfast for dinner, & sandwiches??!!  Not my best cooking week.  Oh well.  Here's to next week!

I will leave you, though, with Marc's all time favorite soup that I make him.  Yes, I said soup.  And yes, I know it is the middle of Summer.  But he would eat this soup 24/7 if he could.  If this soup sounds good to you, just save it in your files until the weather cools down a bit.  I promise, you'll be glad you kept this recipe handy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, Kennedy had a dentist appointment.  Just a regular check-up & teeth cleaning.  My girls normally do not do well at dentist appointments.  They are the kids who have to go in the private rooms (instead of the big room with multiple chairs) because they cry so much.  We go to a pediatric dentist but these visits have been traumatizing to them from day 1.  Thus why I take them separately, on different days, and preferably different months (to give me & the office a break from the crying!).  Last visit Kennedy did remarkably better & did not cry nearly as much, so I was slightly optimistic about this visit.

As we walked into the office, Kennedy told me that Dora likes going to the dentist so she likes going to the dentist too.  I'd say this was a very good way to start the appointment!

{Here We Go}

{Some cool shades so the light didn't shine in her eyes}

She was so brave in the chair.  You could tell that she was nervous & I even saw a little tear slip from her eye, but she quickly wiped it away & didn't cry the entire time!  I was so proud of her!  She talked to the dentist & dental hygienist, followed directions, & was super cooperative throughout the appointment.  It was like I had a whole new person with me this time!

After the hygienist cleaned Kennedy's teeth, she asked me if we could try x-rays.  In the past, we've never been able to do x-rays because she has been so upset.  But today, we gave it a go.  And let me tell you, she did excellent!  She sat still & followed Amber's (the hygienist) directions to a T!

{She looks so TINY under that apron}

After x-rays, we headed back to our private room for the dentist to examine Kennedy.  He was running a little behind so Amber asked if she could paint Kennedy's nails.  What dentist office paints patients' nails??!!  I love it!  And since this was the first time Kennedy had her nails painted, she was feeling extra special!

Dr. Ruder came in shortly after Kennedy's manicure & took at look at her teeth.  He said they looked perfect, her x-rays looked good & she had no sugar bugs (cavities)!  Hooray!  He did say that she has quite an overbite and may need braces in the future.  No surprise there.  Mama's teeth were pretty messed up & had to have braces herself!   Daddy, too, but his weren't near as bad.

Last on the to-do list was fluoride.  The girls take fluoride tablets every day as we don't have fluoride in our water.  But at every visit they put a fluoride paste on their teeth for extra protection.  Kennedy's favorite part?  She doesn't get to brush her teeth the night after she gets the fluoride paste...dentist's strict rule!  She loves this rule!  She even said her favorite part of the day yesterday was that she didn't have to brush her teeth last night!  The girl really doesn't like to have her teeth brushed, I guess!

And there you have it.  An awesome, tear-free dentist appointment!  Dr. Ruder was so impressed with Kennedy's behavior, he said he didn't even recognize her from the last visit!  I quickly pointed out that Little Sister would be in next month, and they can guarantee that there will be screaming & crying from her!

I am so proud of Kennedy & how brave she was at her dentist appointment!  My big girl!
